Misty

Misty is the ballad every pianist learns, and the one that suffers most from automatic reading. Thirty-eight chords, eight tonal centres, fifteen different scales.

The tune moves in pairs of chords sharing a bar, from the second bar onward. Each pair is a decision: two scales, or one that serves both. Ten chords here admit more than one reading, and at ballad tempo none of them goes unnoticed.
